Lizzie Thomson

Responsive Program Resident 2008, 2009, 2012

Lizzie’s practice experiments with processes of embodiment and seeks to press against habituated ways of thinking and moving. Her work researches areas including the transmission of information between bodies, via gesture, rhythm, sensation and words; the nexus between dance and visual arts; ethics surrounding the migration of practices across cultures; and the relationship between dancing and writing. Recent works include White Record (2015), Imitation Jazz (2015), Restaging the Hills of the Dry Grassy Jazz Dance (2014), Alphabet Dance (2014) and PANTO (2011). Lizzie’s work has been supported by organisations including Critical Path, Carriageworks, Campbelltown Arts Centre and Performance Space.

Lizzie has begun 2016 looking back to 1976. She is currently opening up her practice to consider circles, perceptions and imaginings of the 1970s, and relations between dance, love and sensation. Alongside this inquiry, Lizzie continues to perform and collaborate in various projects, and is presently working towards becoming a book for Mette Edvardsen’s work Time has fallen asleep in the afternoon sunshine for the 20th Biennale of Sydney.
