Long Sentences – Rhiannon Newton
Rhiannon Newton is in residency in the research room in June and July. Her research will give concentrated thought to her new work, ‘Long Sentences’, in preparation for a residency at HIAP in Helsinki from September to November.
Long Sentences is an attempt to think in longer time-scales through collective means. Building on Ursula Le Guin’s description of long sentences as a feminist practice for attending to complex relations, this research takes an interest in the performative nature of the verb ‘to sentence’ and the ramifications of actions in the present on distant futures.
