Louise’s recent work uses the symbolism and philosophy from alchemy as an overarching theme and includes an integrated visual description of the work, which describes that which cannot be seen. She is entering into a month of research in Australia spending time in Tasmania (Hobart and Launceston 20 June to 8 July) and New South Wales (9 to 20 July).
For this residency, Louise will continue the research into alchemy and how a choreographic process can learn from alchemical methods of repetition, distillation and refinement. She will also deepen her practice of using visual description for choreography and to experiment with how visual description can exist in and as choreography. Visual description is a method for providing access to art usually practiced on still works like paintings or sculpture, so the potential for it to exist in live works is to be explored with an open mind through play and improvisation.
Louise is looking to meet and work with artists who have an interest in alchemy/visual description/the meaning making of the abstract/writing/voice work.
Critical Path will partner with Tasdance for this residency.
