Narelle Benjamin is a Sydney based choreographer, dance /yoga teacher, and performer.
Narelle is currently working on a new piece, Cella with performer Paul White inspired by the somatic research she explored as part of her Australia Council for Arts Creative Fellowship in 2014/15. The Pina Bausch Company included excerpts of Cella (Latin for cell) as a part of their choreographic season, Underground, in July 2016. Stuttgart Festival’s COLOURS, have invited Paul and Narelle to premiere Cella as a new contemporary dance work in July 2017.
Narelle has danced with many Australian and international choreographers during her career, including Australian Dance Theater, Bangarra Dance Theatre and was a founding member of the Chunky Move Company. Narelle has choreographed for the Sydney Dance Company, Australian Ballet as well as her own independent works. Her full length piece, In Glass winning the Australian Dance Award for Independent Dance and her last full length work, Hiding In Plain Sight, winning outstanding achievement in Choreography in 2015.
