Eyes Wide Open Dance Platform

Dance Sites is a newly formalised network between long-time collaborators Critical Path, Dancehouse and STRUT dance. A first of its kind in Australia, Dance Sites is a mobility network stemming from the partners’ shared commitment to support the independent dance community by circulating and exposing new works at all stages of development to interstate audiences, peers and presenters alike. Supporting as much the process as the product, Dance Sites is a springboard for new development processes, the site for nourishing a sense of belonging to a wider dance community and a facilitator of new connections and presenting opportunities across Australia and internationally.

In 2013 we launch a multi-year project to develop and present three new dance works (one each from NSW, VIC and WA), beginning with showings of the works in development as part of STRUT’s Eyes Wide Open Dance Platform at Kings St Art Centre, Perth. The artists will work with facilitator Rebecca Hilton over the course of a week, engaging with each other and audiences in open rehearsals and more formalised presentations over 3 nights. Rebecca says, “the project is about opening up the lines of communication between choreographers, performers, audiences and the community we make every time we present a dance in a public space.”

Critical Path invites expressions of interest from choreographers who have undertaken a research residency within our 2011-2013 Responsive programs (at the EOI closing date) with a new work in development arising from that research. We will fund up to two artists (choreographer and a dancer/collaborator) with artist fees, airfares, living allowance and accommodation for the week in Perth. In addition, the choreographer will receive a weeklong residency (space and accommodation) through the Bundanon Trust.
