Nick Power & Anne Nguyen

Beyond the Training

In partnership with Ausdance NSW

Cost per series: $70 Ausdance NSW members $90 Non members Open to 15 dance practitioners per series.

An annual series of skills sharing and professional development workshops aimed at exploring beyond the technique of dance classes. The series supports the Responsive research program at Critical Path and expands upon the regular contemporary dance class program delivered by Ausdance NSW.

Nick Power (Sydney) and Anne Nguyen (Paris) are both breakdancers who use hip hop styles to create dance theatre work. Although their movement language has its roots in hip hop, these workshops are open to all dancers’ who are interested in expanding and deconstructing their movement vocabulary. Nick has worked extensively as a choreographer and director for Stalker Theatre and Tracks Dance. His process centres around working with the dancers existing vocabulary as well his own, using music and musicality to inform the movement and explore ideas and concepts through set tasks. Anne has created five full-length works through her company Par Terre. Her process of breaking down and reassembling movement makes many people relate her work to contemporary choreography. After deconstructing movement, she uses its fragments as an abstract symbolic language, and works them into choreographic frames. She uses constraint and game principles, action reaction and organic contact to create her work.
