Research Room

Chloé Déchery

Chloé Déchery spent a week in the Research Room developing one component from her new umbrella research performance project, “Première”, that encompasses a solo performance piece, a film of interviews with senior female artists and a lecture-performance.

During her week at Critical Path, Chloé spent time navigating reading material and doing bouts of writing around her lecture-performance, “Under names other than mines”, around the use of alter egos in women’s creative work within contemporary art history.

During the residency, Chloé also met and talked through her projects with different Sydney-based makers and theorists including Theron Schmidt (Lecturer, theatre and performance studies, University of New South Wales), Cat Jones, Jane McKernan, Julie-Anne Long (performance-maker and Senior Lecturer in dance performance, Macquarie University) and Barbara Formis (Lecturer in Aesthetics and Philosophy at Sorbonne Paris 1). The making process involved conversations and informal interviews with female artists, mixing insights into documentary material and auto-fiction with reworking of more hefty theoretical material.

Première is developed thanks to the support of Studio-Théâtre de Vitry and the 104 in Paris.

The lecture-performance will be ready to tour from September 2020 onwards.
