Critical Path invites you to apply for a RECHARGE Space Grant, Critical Practice and Research Room Residency in Semester 2, 2025.
Our second semester call out is now open for independent choreographers and dancers to experiment with ideas, undertake focused research and lead evening workshops in The Drill Hall from July to December 2025.
You are invited to build your own residency by choosing up to 3 programs:
- RECHARGE Space Grant
- Research Room Residency
- Critical Practice

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
Applications will be assessed for clarity, integrity of concept and benefit to your practice.
We are committed to platforming diverse perspectives and voices. We encourage submissions from First Nations artists, emerging artists, culturally and linguistically diverse artists, LGBTQIA+ artists and artists with disability.

RECHARGE SPACE GRANT: 7 JULY – 31 AUGUST 2025
A RECHARGE Space Grant gives an artist the opportunity to use The Drill Hall without any pre-determined outcomes. Test an idea. Dive deep into an embodied practice. Play with collaborators. Applications can be made by individuals or collectives.
We have 8 RECHARGE Space Grants to offer from 7 July – 31 August 2025.
Each RECHARGE residency is for 1-week full time.

RESEARCH ROOM RESIDENCY: 16 JUNE – 22 AUGUST // 15 SEPTEMBER – 7 NOVEMBER // 7 NOVEMBER – 12 DECEMBER 2025
A Research Room Residency gives an artist the opportunity to use the Research Room to undertake research for their choreographic projects. Review archival footage. Develop ideas with collaborators. Reflect on a recent project.
Each Research Room Residency is 2 weeks (minimum) to 2 months (maximum)

CRITICAL PRACTICE: 28 JULY – 28 AUGUST // 17 NOVEMBER – 11 DECEMBER 2025
Critical Practice gives an artist an opportunity to lead paid evening workshops at The Drill Hall to share findings from their choreographic practice with peers and the public.
Critical Path will handle ticket registrations for workshops and provide marketing support. Income from the workshops will be split between the artist (70%) and Critical Path (30%).
We are offering a 5-week series in July/August and a 4-week series in November/December.
Each Critical Practice time slot is 3hrs from 6pm – 9pm.
