Publication launch and archival project
Join us for the launch of the special edition of Critical Dialogues celebrating 20 years of Critical Path. Edited by Ira Ferris.
The publication launch is accompanied by the archival project “Vignettes flickers fades”, including a sound montage created with musician and sound artist Alexandra Spence. The launch will include:
- Conversation between Ira Ferris and Tammi Gissell on experimental approaches to archiving in a dance context
- Music performance “Vignettes flickers fades” by Alexandra Spence
- Dance performance “How can I remember what I have forgotten” by Ryuichi Fujimura
- A birthday cake!
The 16th edition of Critical Dialogues features texts by Nikki Heywood, Gail Priest, Tammi Gissell, Lizzie Thomson, WeiZen Ho, Julie-Anne Long, Agnès Michelet, Alexandra Harrison, Vicki Van Hout, Sophie Travers and Claire Hicks.
Weaved through the edition is Ira Ferris’ experimental archive project “Vignettes flickers fades” which collages voices of eleven Critical Path artists into a collective body, paying equal attention to that which is remembered and that which is forgotten or transformed into an utterance.
The “Vignettes” focus on multi-sensory memories, to reflect not only the significant moments in Critical Path programs and activities, but to invoke sounds, smells, colours of the heritage building, its water-based location and porous features that imbue creative processes. As such, the “Vignettes” are an archive and a map of the Drill Hall (the building) – a space carrier of Critical Path.
Artists featured in the “Vignettes” are: Patricia Wood, Angela Goh, Rhiannon Newton, Lizzie Thomson, Vicki Van Hout, Linda Luke, Martin del Amo, Nikki Heywood, Ryuichi Fujimura, Victoria Hunt and Jane McKernan.
Join us to pick up your own copy of Critical Dialogues #16 and access the sound montage “Vignettes flickers fades”.
