A practice-based workshop led by Vicki Van Hout for early career Indigenous dancers and choreographers. Vicki will facilitate the development of six emerging Indigenous choreographic voices, by sharing tools accumulated over a career spanning two decades as a leading independent teacher/ performance maker. Selected participants will work toward defining and presenting a choreographic idea in progress; they will be encouraged to focus on innovation within their craft, to push boundaries and explore other art forms within their practice, to experiment with abstraction when utilising cultural narratives and use the workshops as a safe environment to play. Participants include Thomas E.S. Kelly, Taree Sansbury, Henrietta Baird and Caleena Sansbury.
Vicki Van Hout is an independent interdisciplinary performance maker of Aboriginal (Wiradjuri) and Dutch heritage. She has been teaching and mentoring for the past ten years at NAISDA Dance College and in the broader dance community.
