Research Room Residency

Choy Ka Fai will spend time at the Research Room investigating his new work Unbearable Darkness looking at the influence of the Butoh practice within contemporary performance. He’s in Sydney to present his acclaimed work Softmachine at Liveworks Festival with supporting workshops and talks – a partnership between Critical Path and Performance Space.

Choy Ka Fai an artist and performance maker. He is inspired by the histories and theorizations that together contain the uncertainties of the future. His research springs from a desire to understand the conditioning of the human body, its intangible memories and the forces shaping its expressions. These factors converge into complex articulations at the intersection of art, design and technology. Ka Fai graduated from the Royal College of Art, London, with MA in Design Interaction in 2011 and was conferred the Young Artist Award by the National Arts Council, Singapore, in 2010. He was the resident artist at Kunstlerhaus Bethanien, Berlin from 2014-15. His projects have been presented in major festival worldwide, including ImPulsTanz Festival, Vienna (2015) Tanz Im August, Berlin (2015&2013) and Singapore Arts Festival (2012).
