Set Piece

Nat Randall and Anna Breckon

The Experimental Choreographic Residency (ECR) is presented by Critical Path and Performance Space. The ECR supports a 3-week period of research & creative development that explores experimental or interdisciplinary approaches to choreography.

In 2020, the ECR was awarded to Nat Randall and Anna Breckon for the development of their new work, Set Piece. Set Piece brings together film and theatre citations, interview material and improvisation to create a work that explores homosexual coupledom through the lens of power dynamics and erotic power play.

Through deidealising portraits of the couple, Set Piece explores the abject nature of sexuality and desire, modes of competition and contempt generated by the immobility of the form, and the ways in which desire and attachment are bound up in broader hierarchical social organizations.

Set Piece, produced by Fenn Gordon, is rehearsing at The Drill Hall in January and February 2021. Follow Nat Randall & Anna Breckon for updates on Set Piece’s premiere.
