Critical Path in partnership with Sydney Festival 2017 present Talking Dance, a series of conversations between Sydney Festival artists exploring ideas in their performance works and broader practice.
Often the person who gets to talk about a dance show is the lead choreographer, but there are many other creative roles that lead to the success of these artworks.
Contributing artists Jala Adolphus (Ekosdance), Juliette Barton (Sydney Dance Company), Amber Haines (DanceNorth), Amrita Hepi (Independent) and Miranda Wheen (Champions).
Miranda Wheen
Miranda Wheen is a dancer and choreographer based in Sydney and a performer in Champions. She she has collaborated with Marrugeku, Shaun Parker and Company, Mirramu Dance Company, Restless Dance Theatre, Martin Del Amo, Stalker Theatre Company and the Tsai Jui-Yueh Dance Foundation in Taiwan, among others.
Amber Haines (Dance North)
Currently the Associate Artistic Director of Dancenorth, Amber has worked with many acclaimed companies and choreographers including Chunky Move, Australian Dance Theatre, Lucy Guerin Inc and Stephanie Lake. Collaborating with partner Kyle Page for Dancenorth their works, including Spectra have toured across Australia and Asia.
Jala Adolphus
Based in Jakarta, Jala is an independent producer working with leading Indonesian choreographers and directors including Eko Supriyanto, Garin Nugroho and Ri-anto. She is also Editor of Tanzconnexions, and is engaged with events that connect artists, academics, audiences and programs both within Southeast Asia and the Pacific and Europe.
Amrita Hepi
Amrita Hepi is a Bundjulung and Ngapuhi woman interested in movement as manifested by all bodies and reimagining/creating the greatness that will be WOC first nations futures. She studied at NAISDA and then Alvin Ailey.
Juliette Barton (SDC)
Juliette joined Sydney Dance Company in 2009 and has since worked with choreographer/director Rafael Bonachela, performing in 14 of the company’s works. Juliette made her choreographic debut with her solo piece, Scrutineer, for Sydney Dance Company’s New Breed season (2014).
Fiona Winning (CHAIR)
Fiona Winning is the Head of Programming at Sydney Festival. She was previously Artistic Director of Performance Space Sydney and prior to that worked as a director, writer and dramaturg in the 90’s.
