An otherworldly spectral entity is partially visible - hovering between a liminal threshold of fine particle mist. There are minimal details in this shrouded light grey realm. She wears an assemblage of grey and white regalia and her arm is raised to hold in place a bone relic mask which completely covers the head.

CRITICAL PRACTICE [OCT – DEC 2024]

Critical Practice is a weekly series of evening workshops at The Drill Hall from 21 October to 18 December.

Mythmaking with writing and movement | TAMARA ELKINS
21 OCT – 16 DEC 2024
MONDAYS
7PM – 9PM

Mythologies help us understand the world, they link us to our histories and reinforce identities. This workshop will explore the mythologies living within us and how they can be turned into a movement-based practice. Beginning with a series of writing exercises focusing on different themes found within mythologies such as transformations, origins and fate, we will go on to explore how creative writing can act as a provocation for generating new movement.

Each workshop will focus on a different theme of mythmaking, meaning you can attend a single or multiple workshops.

Suitable for all levels of dance and writing.

Metamorphetic States: Bodies, Entities, Forces, Atmospheres | VICTORIA HUNT

22 OCT – 17 DEC 2024
TUESDAYS
7PM – 9PM

Can we perceive, construct, and perform animate relationships that are more-than-human?
Can we become the architect of guardian and protector energies during times of collapse?
How must we attune ourselves to the dynamics of embodied intelligence, dream logic, ancestral wisdom and living cycles – coexisting in radical gestures amid the malevolent forces shaping our times.

This workshop series will offer processes that playfully question the bedrock of how we live our lives. Participants are invited to come as you are, and bring your imaginations, an openness to try new approaches, and curiosity.

Moving through Self | CASSIE LYNN

23 OCT – 18 DEC 2024
WEDNESDAYS
5:30PM – 7PM

This series of movement workshops will mainly involve experimentation, improvisation and guided movement activities, to encourage self-reflection and emergence. Dance and movement act as a mirror and metaphor for life. Through this lens we will step into the exploration of Self and play with these themes:

  • Seeking
  • Navigating
  • Surrendering and;
  • Community

This communal space aims to create space for play, authentic expression and connection and embodiment. In practising what we know is true for ourselves or in discovering what that is, we can move forward with more aligned choices.
