Talk: André Lepecki and Nicola Conibere in conversation
In association between the Biennale of Sydney and Critical Path
Curator, writer and dramaturg André Lepecki is in Sydney as an attaché for the 20th Biennale of Sydney, for which he has curated the special project ‘The Future of Disappearance’. Artist and choreographer Nicola Conibere is presenting her live, choreographic work Assembly over three consecutive days during the Biennale at The Drill (1–3 April). In this informal conversation, they discuss their projects for the Biennale and issues relevant to performance theory today.
André Lepecki is Associate Professor at the Department of Performance Studies, New York University. Author of Exhausting Dance: Performance and Politics of Movement (Routledge, 2006) and editor of several anthologies including Dance (Whitechapel, 2012), he has curated projects for HKW, Berlin; Museum of Modern Art, Warsaw; Hayward Gallery, London, among other venues in Europe, the US and Brazil.
Nicola Conibere is a London-based choreographer making work for theatres, art galleries and other places. Her work engages choreographic processes to explore the potentials of how bodies relate, investigating states of exchange between people, duration, place and other materials. She is particularly interested in the politics and potentials of spectatorship, and often investigates notions of theatricality, public appearing and social choreography in her work.
