This talk will examine the position of disabled artists in both U.K. and other geographical contexts. Drawing from her recent PhD research and ongoing shared practice with artist Welly O’Brien, Kate will discuss how notions of ‘inclusion’ in dance have shifted, key questions include:
Inclusion on whose terms? Challenging pre-conceived ideas about access and participation.
How do we use and disseminate the breadth of dance experience that exists in disabled artists?
Where are the disabled leaders in dance?
Kate will be in Australia undertaking a 3week residency with Critical Path as part of a collaboration with Metal, Peterborough (UK) an interdisciplinary artist development organisation.
